Couldn’t agree more, but doesn’t mean they’re poor. They’re all black, what are they trying to get at.

Before that fact I never thought about this video meaning anything but being cute with a great song. The school looks normal and the kids don’t look poor. It doesn’t even sound like Regina to have some other agenda going on. But It does sound like her to be kind of poor herself back then & not able to afford a costly video & then asking to use her moms school & not thinking twice that all the kids in this class happen to be black. Now that sounds like her.

  7. Why did they film …
Why did they film the video in some inner city ghetto school?

seems werid, we get it there are poor people in the world, we don’t need it in every music video

I’m one of those people who was complaining and I will be the first to say “my bad”. In this case I was wrong. However, I know a number of people who are pretty liberal and I get a bit tired of all of the fake displays of benevolence. I thought that was going on in the video.

Getting back to what is good about this song, has anyone noticed that the drum in the background sounds like a heartbeat?

  9. Thanks thats a neat …
Thanks thats a neat fact to know, I don’t understand what the crap people are complaining about in the other comments, I never once had a thought like that I just like to see Regina and I thought the video was fine.

    Regina’s mom is a …
Regina’s mom is a music teacher in Mt. Vernon, NY which happens to have a black majority population. She fillmed this video in her mom’s school.

  11. Ok, even I am sick …
Ok, even I am sick of my complaining about the video. So much is good about the song, but I really like
“And then you take that love you made
    And stick it into some
    Someone else’s heart
    Pumping someone else’s blood”
That is so beautiful and visceral. It is not fake valentine love, but the kind of love that sustains and lasts. Wow, good lyrics!

  12. Maybe so. It is …
Maybe so. It is open to interpretation. However, if you asked 100 white people and 100 black people, I think that the majority of both groups would think that the video’s purpose is to show how very caring and magnanimous she is. That sort of display does not help anyone and especially does not create a better society. This song deserves a better video.

  13. I think the video …
I think the video was based off a teacher who was a music teacher in an inner city school in New York, where the majority of the children there were African American.

If Regina is were my teacher, I will be a better student and more happy…!

  15. Seriously, I don’t …
Seriously, I don’t know what the video should be like, but not like this. It really offends me. The song is so good, but the video demeans it by trying too hard to “do the right thing”. I would have been just as offended if she had been handing out food or warm clothes to poor people. Teaching black people and handing out food or clothes are all fine activities, but to put them in a video like this is sort of like Regina screaming “look at me, I am a saint!” It demeans her. I blame her manager.

  16. how clever…what …
how clever…what is the difference? They should have a white kid, an Asian kid, a Latin kid and a Black kid like a soap commercial?

  17. I love this song …
I love this song but I am less thrilled by the video.

People ask why all of the kids are black, it is because black children love Regina; you can see it so clearly. She is like a teaching angel to them. Black children also like Regina’s friends Sally and Johny. If you want to know more about how black people love Regina, go to Google and type in “Black People Love Us”. It will explain this video.

  18. in a way she kinda …
in a way she kinda reminds me of Fiona Apple vocal-wise. has almost the same tone. just a little higher in pitch. they could sing a duet and you couldn’t tell who’s who. listen close. back of a truck on the eleven eleven cd is a good example. Fiona would sound good singing that one.

  19. she has a true …
she has a true mastery of her voice. i love the way she really knows how to use it. kinda like frou frou. but Regina even more so. it’s truly an instrument in the fullest sense ofthe word. it’s truly wonderful listening to her. and she’s sooooo beautiful. i have all her cds.

  20. I WISH REGINA WAS …
I WISH REGINA WAS MY MUSIC TEACHER. :( (

  21. It’s because it’s …
It’s because it’s something no one is used to…. i think it’s cute. And she’s gorgeous!!!!

  22. I was wondering the …
I was wondering the same thing!, but then when the kids are only white, no one says “why’s the class full of white kids?”….

  23. ZOMG i love this …
ZOMG i love this song, i posted the lyrics on my binder its so amazing. all her lyrics so pretty, could have any interpretation.
