1947 Zenith 6G004Y “Global” AM/SW Portable Radio

Picked this up at the last radio meet.

Practically identical with the Zenith Universal, except it has an extra shortwave band crammed into it. I believe it’s from 31m to 25m.

Just needed a recapping and rubber-wire replacement.

Running on one of my replica Z-985 batteries.

Still a little touchy, as the radio sometimes goes silent. I think the oscillator tube is on the duff side.

From what I understand, these are pretty rare radios. They only made them for a year.

    A classic radidio! …
A classic radidio! In your research, can you find specs as to how long a battery would work in those old rigs, and how much they costed at the time? Some of those old radios would eat batteries, and they weren’t cheap. Now we have much better batteries at lower cost. That would be of interest to put in your vids. Going portable was a special occasion, like at a beach or picnic back then. If there was a plug, we used it! Battery life WAS an issue that is worth the FYI in your vids that I enjoy.
