All of the above work with electromagnetic radiation.

Electromagnetic radiation refers to all the frequencies of which visible light is a very tiny sliver.

In order from longest wavelength (smallest energy) to shortest wavelength (highest energy):

Radio waves (radios work on this frequency) Radio waves go from Very Long Waves to long waves (some radio stations broadcast on this wavelength, to short waves, to ultra high frequency UHF, old televisions used to broadcast on this frequency) Anything higher frequency than UHF is considered microwaves.

Microwaves (mobiles and microwave ovens work on this frequency – hence the hysteria about cooking ones brain with a mobile).

Infra red (your infra red remote control for your tv works on this frequency, it is also heat radiation, e.g. the heat we get from the sun is infra red)

Red, Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet – make up a very tiny window on the EM spectrum.

Ultra violet radiation – this is the dangerous stuff that sunscreen protects us from.

X-rays – used in seeing bones in medicine.

Gamma rays – very dangerous radiation Studied by particle astronomers and nuclear physicists, this kind of radiation is given off when an unstable nucleus decays, it is the stuff people fear when a nuclear power plant goes critical and can only be stopped by lead. This is the highest energy – shortest wavelength.

I listen to a radio station streaming on the internet via my computer. However i want my mother who is not computer literate to be able to listen also on a radio (not the computer). I went ahead and checked Sirius’s website and noticed a channel list. The radio station i have been listening to is not included so i am wondering how to get this resolved.

You are probably thinking of a ‘wifi’ radio rather than satellite. There are ‘radios’ that can connect to a wi-fi access point and deliver internet streamed audio without a ‘computer’ — something designed mostly for people who are computer-phobic I assume — available.

This will allow someone to listen to the audio streamed over the internet without using a ‘computer’ to do so.

This is NOT the same thing as satellite radio which is a subscription based service much like cable or satellite TV, but an internet function. If Sirius doesn’t carry the station you are looking for, they it won’t be on their service, Period. I’d suggest either getting a cheap computer and attaching speakers, and just setting up an ‘alias’ to allow your mom ‘one click access’ to the station she wants to stream or investigating the Wi-Fi "radios" out there to see if that will work better for her.

I have about 125 car radios that I need to power up in my house. Most do not have a wiring harness attached. How can I easily power each up? I want to take pics of them powered up so I can sell them. I don’t need speakers or anything just power. How can I easily power them if they don’t have harnesses?

You need a 12 volt source and some small gauge wire.
You can use a car battery or a 12 volt power adapter from something around the house.
A battery charger or something… I would use the small low current source to test it. The small charger/adapter is less likely to do damage if you get the connection incorrect the first time.
Getting power to the wrong pin is bad no matter how little current, but lower is better. A car batter at 650 + amps will pop it quick for sure if wrong…
Hopefully they are marked.

It depends on the connector type, but just poke the wires in the connector. If it has pins then skin a little extra coating off the wire and fold it up to make it thicker and balled a bit. Then poke it on the pin.
maybe wrap a little piece of tape or paper around the wire so it doesn’t short to the other pins.
For the small female end connector just stick a pin in it and wrap the wire to the pin.

You do know which is the power pins for each radio right?
If not, You’ll have to look up the connector diagrams online…

I don’t know if all radios are case grounded. If they are then connect the ground to that and poke the hotwire in the connector. Beware though, it might make it into a paper weight. You could pull the case apart and look at the board to see what pins are what…

I like to make life difficult..sorry…

That’s all I have to offer is poke away..

have fun

I enjoy listening to just the audio parts of television shows. But,since we switched to digital to analog my radio doesn’t receive digital signals.Where can I buy a portable radio?

That sort of thing was common with analog TV because it was very easy to include the TV audio frequencies with any radio that had the FM broadcast band. Analog TV audio is also FM, so the additional parts in a set were minimal.

Not so with digital. You’d need a complete ATSC tuner, and you’d also need the same quality of antenna that’s required to receive video. Analog television audio was receivable with a simple whip antenna on a portable radio, but you need the full digital bitstream, with good signal strength, to capture digital TV audio.

For those reasons, manufacturers haven’t rushed to market digital TV audio radios. The production costs would be far too high and the demand for the product would be low.
