Where can I find a portable radio that picks up just the audio of digital television?

I enjoy listening to just the audio parts of television shows.But,since we switched to digital to analog my radio doesn’t receive digital signals.Where can I buy a portable radio?

That sort of thing was common with analog TV because it was very easy to include the TV audio frequencies with any radio that had the FM broadcast band. Analog TV audio is also FM, so the additional parts in a set were minimal.

Not so with digital. You’d need a complete ATSC tuner, and you’d also need the same quality of antenna that’s required to receive video. Analog television audio was receivable with a simple whip antenna on a portable radio, but you need the full digital bitstream, with good signal strength, to capture digital TV audio.

For those reasons, manufacturers haven’t rushed to market digital TV audio radios. The production costs would be far too high and the demand for the product would be low.

What are some portable radios that can record while playing?

When was it invented?

The format was originally called ‘Compact Cassette’. It was invented in 1962 by the Philips Corporation. It was originally meant for low-quality voice recording, for dictaphones, or to record telephone conversations and meetings and the like. But by 1964 record companies were putting music on cassettes. The first company to release music on cassettes was Mercury Records, which was owned by Philips.

Philips wisely decided to put the design into public domain so that particular design of cassettes would become widely accepted.

How do you disable remote monitoring on a Motorolla xpr 6550 portable radio?

We got new radios at work and in the manual it says they can be remote monitored. Meaning at any time someone can mic up your radio and listen to what’s going on. I followed the instructions in the manual to disable it but it didn’t seem like it worked right. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Look in page 29 RH side "stopping remote monitor" which says: press the programmed transmit interupt remote dekey button etc (radio will sound positive/negative tone)

Is the link to the manual, mind you, anything getting out on any radio that’s not encrypted can be listened to…

I just bought an AC-to-DC adapter for my portable radio. Is it true that I should leave the batteries in so that I won’t need to reset stations after a power failure? If so, does the radio run on battery power or house current when the adapter is plugged in? Thanks.

Yes you should leave your batteries in the radio, so that if there is a power failure, the batteries act as a backup power source to the radio. Besides it is hard to try to find batteries in the dark, let alone put them back in the radio.

Ask the CCrane Company for help with this, as it
is the importer and principle dealer for that radio.

An FM modulator would "transmit" into the CC SW (or any other
FM radio), and wouldn’t require that any modifications be performed.

I was given a new Motorola "TRBO" portable radio at my fire department and I know they have GPS where they can be tracked and I know the dispatcher can shut the radio down and things of that nature, I have also heard they can key up the microphone and listen into what’s going on around the radio…I just want to know if this is in fact true?

Yes, That’s definitely true it is possible with digital radios, the dispatch can do and will have in total control of your radio, what ever they wants to do with it remotely.

Looking for a portable hand crank powered radio that has good sound quality. Thanks for any tips.

I have a Freeplayer Freepower FM/AM radio that I’ve had since 1997 and still WORKS GREAT. See the first link attached.

They have some newer products on their website.

Note, it’s not going to be some giant radio box, but the sound is fine. It takes me under a minute to completely crank it, and I get 45 to 50 minutes before I have to wind it up again.
